Why I Love Fruity Nutella Porridge
I love this recipe for Nutella Porridge with fruit because:
- It’s really easy.
- Adding Nutella is a great way to get kids to eat porridge.
- This recipe is for one person, but it’s easy to multiply for more.
- Adding fruit to Nutella porridge is a great way to add nutrients, and get one of your five a day with breakfast.
- You can add many different flavours and textures, as well as two tablespoons of Nutella.
- Porridge oats can be bought really cheaply.
- Porridge is an excellent way to start the day, and it’s ready in no time.
- Nutella Oatmeal is the ideal easy breakfast for a cold morning.
- I don’t add cocoa powder or sugar to my chocolate oatmeal to keep it as healthy as possible.

Ingredients For Nutella Porridge
When I make Nutella Porridge with no added sugar, I use:
Porridge Oats – Use rolled oats (old-fashioned) for a quick Nutella porridge. Jumbo take too long to cook, and instant are too smooth. I buy super cheap bags of oats from Aldi.
Milk – I use semi-skimmed, because that’s what we have in. You could use full-fat, too.
Nutella – Full disclosure: my chocolate hazelnut spread is actually Nutoka. It doesn’t need to be branded. But chocolate hazelnut porridge doesn’t sound as good.
For the Topping:
Nutella – This extra dollop is optional but adds a richer flavour.
Strawberries – I chop my strawberries into quarters (or eighths if they are massive) to have a chunk with every bite.
Blueberries

How to Make Easy Nutella Porridge – Step-by-Step Instructions
Full, easy-to-follow instructions and quantities are available in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Step One
Place the oats and milk in a small saucepan on the hob.
Use a larger pan if you are increasing the recipe to feed more than one person.

Step Two
Warm over medium heat, stirring often until it reaches a simmer.
Step Three
Reduce the temperature if necessary. You just want a nice low simmer.
Step Four
Simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened.
Make sure you stir around the edges, where it’s most likely to catch to the pan.
Step Five
Remove from the heat.

Step Six
Stir through one tablespoon of Nutella until even.

Step Seven
Serve in a cereal bowl with a dollop of Nutella and the prepared fruit on top.
You can just dollop these on the top or stir them through.

Serving Suggestions
I serve my creamy Nutella Porridge with a spoon of extra Nutella and some strawberries and blueberries.

You could also serve healthy Nutella porridge with banana, chopped hazelnuts and chia seeds. You can add lots of things.
I tend to stir my extra Nutella in, but you can just leave it on top or stir through a little so it’s marbled.
Add a scoop of protein powder to your Nutella and porridge oats for Nutella Protein Porridge.
Is Porridge with Nutella Suitable for Vegans?
No, Nutella isn’t vegan.
Use a plant-based Nutella alternative and plant-based milk for a vegan version. I’d recommend oat milk.
