I started air-frying roast vegetables to save oven space and time on Sunday and in preparation for bigger meals, like Christmas dinner.
But I’m not going to lie; I’m now putting air fryer roast carrots, parsnips and sweet potatoes on the side of all sorts of family dinners. They are just soooo good!

Why Air Fry Parsnips
I recommend air frying parsnips because:
- It’s easy.
- They cook evenly.
- Once you’ve got a basic recipe, you can make changes for things like honey roasted veg.
- Air fryer roast parsnips are delicious. Actually, all air fryer roasted vegetables are delicious.
- Roasting parsnips in air fryer is a great way to save time (the cooking time is much less than when you cook parsnips in the oven), oven space and money.

Ingredients For Air Fryer Parsnips
You can add things like honey, spices and herbs to your roasted air fryer parsnips. But I usually stick to a basic recipe, using:
Parsnips
Salt and Black Pepper
Olive Oil

Equipment
All you need to air fry parsnips is an air fryer, a knife, a chopping board, a peeler, and a bowl to toss the vegetables.
How to Roast Parsnips in Air Fryer– Step-by-Step Instructions
Full, easy-to-follow instructions and quantities are available in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Step One
Preheat your air fryer to 200 degrees C and set for 15 minutes.
Step Two
Top and bottom the parsnips and peel them thoroughly.
Step Three
Cut in half, down the length. If your parsnips are wide, you may want to cut them into three or four chunks.
If the core in the middle has a noticeably different texture, you can chop it out, too, as it will be tough. This is sometimes described as looking woody and is usually only an issue in large parsnips.

I rarely bother, to be honest.
Step Four
Place the chopped parsnips in a mixing bowl.

Step Five
Add the oil and a good pinch of salt and pepper and toss until coated.

Step Six
Place on the crisper tray in a thin layer. Try to avoid overlapping as much as you can.
You can add a little salt and pepper if you need to.

Step Seven
Air fry for 15 minutes, shaking the air fryer basket to toss halfway through. If any are stuck, use a spatula or spoon to give them a little nudge.

Step Eight
If after 15 minutes your parsnips are still firmer than you’d like (I like mine quite crunchy), reduce the temperature to 160 degrees C to stop the outside burning, and air fry for a further five minutes.

Repeat until they are how you like them.
How to Serve Air Fryer Roasted Parsnips
Parsnips are a fantastic element of a Sunday roast, Christmas dinner, or any other roast dinner.
But they can also be a great side with things like burgers as an alternative to chips. I’ve even been known to dip mine in mayo.

Leftovers
Place leftover parsnips in a clean bowl or tub and leave to cool.
Once cool, cover and place in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat in your air fryer for 5 minutes at 180 degrees.
FAQ
No, you can air-fry raw parsnips without parboiling.
Yes, you should peel parsnips.
If the core of your parsnip has a woody texture, it can be very tough, so chopping it out can be a good idea. It’s not essential, though.
How long you need to cook parsnips will depend on how big they are, and how soft you like them. Start with 15 minutes.
