Looking for a quick, budget-friendly meal? Try this perfect Air Fryer Baked Potato – a healthy and easy option that’s ideal for busy weeknights or a comforting lunch.
At this point, I can’t tell you how many air fryer baked potatoes I’ve eaten in the last few weeks.
I’ve always enjoyed a good old jacket potato, particularly with cheese and beans. But we don’t have a microwave, and they take soooo long in the oven.
The air fryer has been a game-changer when it comes to my lunches!

Why Air Fry Baked Potatoes
I love air-fried baked potatoes because:
- They’re super easy to make. This air fryer baked potato recipe is the easiest thing ever.
- While it takes longer than the microwave, it’s faster than the oven, and you still get a crispy golden skin, which you don’t get in the microwave.
- They smell amazing.
- The middle is wonderfully fluffy, and the crispy skin is perfect.
- It’s cheaper than cooking in the oven because it’s faster and because you are heating a much smaller space. Heating a whole oven for a little potato is very wasteful.
- A jacket potato in air fryer is the ultimate easy comfort food.

Ingredients For Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
Exactly what you need to air fry baked potatoes depends on your toppings, but for the base potato I use:
Medium Baking Potato
Salt and Pepper – This isn’t essential, but it makes the skin taste wonderful.
Olive Oil – Or oils, including vegetable and avocado oil, are fine, too.

What is the Best Kind of Potato for Jacket Potatoes?
Well, you can air fry pretty much any kind of white potato (you can also air fry sweet potatoes, but that’ll be a different recipe). It’s not like you can use only one type for baked potatoes.
But some are better than others.
The best potato has a low moisture and high starch content for a perfect fluffy on the inside crispy on the outside jacket potato.
Maris Piper or King Edwards are ideal. Russets are great too.
In the UK, most supermarkets sell packets of “baking potatoes”, which I tend to get.

Equipment
To make baked potatoes in the air fryer, you’ll need a fork to prick the potato and an air fryer with a crisper tray.
Silicone tongs can be useful to turn your potato, but they’re pretty round, so easy to roll with a spatula or spoon.
How to Air Fry Baked Potatoes– Step-by-Step Instructions
Step One
Preheat the air fryer to 200 degrees C.
Step Two
Wash your potato thoroughly and pat dry with a clean towel or piece of kitchen roll.
Step Three
Rub the potato skins with olive oil and salt and pepper. I do this with my hands, but you could use a pastry brush.

Step Four
Prick all over with a fork.
Step Five
Place in the air fryer basket. You don’t need to wrap in foil.

Step Six
Air fry for around 30 minutes, turning over halfway through.
Note this is for one or two medium-sized potatoes. If your potatoes are larger, or you are air frying more than one, it could take longer. Three or four potatoes take around 40 minutes.
Step Seven
Carefully cut open with a sharp knife, score the potatoes and add a liberal dollop of butter.
Sprinkle on some grated cheddar cheese, or add your favourite toppings.

How to Serve Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
There’s so much that you can do with the simple baked potato!
It can be a side dish. I particularly like steak, coleslaw, and a fluffy baked potato. Halloumi and corn is a great meat-free option.
Or it can be a meal of its own. Some of my favourite toppings for air fryer jacket potatoes are:
- Cheese
- Beans
- Cheese and Beans
- Tuna and Sweetcorn Mayo
- Chilli con carne
- Five Bean Chilli
- Chicken Curry (with air fryer chicken!)
- Butter (try adding garlic powder for crushed cloves for a garlicky treat)
- Sour Cream and fresh chives
- Bacon bits

Leftovers
If you have whole leftover air fryer jacket potatoes, you can keep them in the fridge for 1-2 days and reheat them in your air fryer for 10-15 minutes at 150 degrees.
If your air fryer has a reheat setting, use this.
