About

Hi, and Welcome to Fabulous Family Food from DonnaDundas.co.uk

I’m Donna, and as a busy working mum, I know how hard it can be to fill meal plans every week, finding food that the kids enjoy, that’s tasty, filling, and reasonably healthy, often while shopping on a budget and keeping everyone happy.

That’s why I’m on a mission to help other parents, and busy people, find easy recipes, perfect for midweek meals, treat nights, and special occasions. Taking the stress out of meal planning and hopefully even helping you to have some fun in the kitchen.

About Me

I’m a thirtysomething mum, living in Sheffield with my husband and two kids.

When I’m not blogging, I run the website for my husband’s 28mm Miniature Painting business DundasMiniatures and I’ve recently completed a TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Digital Marketing.

When I’ve got time, I like to read, and enjoy going to the gym, yoga, hiking and running. I’m not a big gym bunny, but I really really like to eat, so there has to be a pretty active balance!

I love baking, either on my own or with the kids. But, honestly prefer good old simple recipes. I bake birthday cakes for the kids, and I get so stressed out about it, I don’t know how anyone bakes for other people. If you are looking for fancy cakes, you won’t find them here!

What You Can Expect to Find on DonnaDundas.co.uk

But, if you are looking for straightforward, simple meals that families love and easy sweet treats and puddings then you’ve come to the right place!

I’m a big fan of keeping things as simple as possible. If I see a big recipe with loads of ingredients, things I’ve never heard of, 100 steps and 17 pans, I’ll think “what can I take out? What can I swap with something in my cupboard? How can I do it in one pan?”

I’m very much a use what you’ve got, or what you can afford, and keep things as simple as possible type cook, and I don’t think that you always need to use the best of everything or follow the rules to get a tasty meal.

If you and your family are eating and you are happy, it’s a win!

Some of my favourite things to make and share include:

Great Ways to Use Up Leftovers

Cooking with leftovers is something that I’m really passionate about.

We love a big Sunday lunch, and have one most week, even if we have to fit it around husbands rota and other plans.

But I hate waste. I’ll do what I can to avoid it. While a sandwich is fine, there is so much more that you can do with leftover Sunday lunch meat. My Beef StroganoffBeef Ragu, and Lamb Curry are all perfect for cooking with leftovers.

Check out all of my leftovers recipes for some fantastic ideas.

Easy Midweek Meals

Midweek meals used to be the bane of my life. Finding time to cook around swimming lessons, homework, my work, husbands later shifts, school runs, and everything else, without just putting “spag bol” and “cottage pie” on the meal plan every week was so stressful!

Now, these meals are my favourites. Having some really simple meals in your arsenal, especially if they are things that everyone loves, makes life so much easier. Sausages are a big feature in our midweek meals, with sausage hotpot being a particular favourite.

Fakeaways

I used to be so scared of making curries at home. I still buy the occasional sauce jar, if I’m being honest. But homemade curries are so much easier than you might think, especially once you’ve made a few and your spice shelf is starting to fill up!

However, I should say that my curries aren’t particularly authentic or fancy. They are easy and taste good, though.

Easy Loaf Cakes

Once you’ve got a basic sponge recipe, there’s so much that you can do in a loaf tin. From Lemon Curd to Nutella, I love a super simple loaf cake, and there’s not much better than a thick slice with a cup of tea in the afternoon.

Fun Brownies

Same with brownies. Once you’ve got the basic recipe, you can start adding different flavours and treats. Brownies are one of my favourites, and I love baking them almost as much as eating them!

Fabulous Cookies

I was so determined to make the perfect chewy chocolate chip cookie that I made about 10 batches in 2 weeks. The kids loved it! I really believe that my recipe is perfect though, and encourage you to give it a go!
