This air fryer sweet potato wedges recipe is super simple and really yummy.

Why Air Fry Sweet Potato Wedges
I air fry my sweet potato wedges because:
- It’s much faster than cooking them in the oven.
- They are delicious. Simply seasoned sweet potato is always yummy.
- It’s a great way to save oven space if you are cooking a bigger meal.
- Air frying is often cheaper and healthier than baking or roasting.

Are These Crispy Sweet Potato Wedges?
No. My air fryer sweet potato wedges recipe won’t give you crispy outsides.
I love a crispy potato wedge, but for some reason, I prefer my sweet potatoes nice and soft.
I don’t like sweet potato skin, so unlike when I make air fryer potato wedges with white potatoes, I peel them, which always means they are softer.
It’s also harder to crisp sweet potatoes because they have more moisture. Chunky wedges will always be soft.
If you want your sweet potato wedges to be crispy:
- Leave the skin on, and just scrub them.
- Cut sweet potatoes into 1 cm thick strips, more like big sweet potato fries than chunky wedges.
- Make sure they aren’t overcrowded in your air fryer.

Ingredients For Air Fryer Sweet Potato Wedges
When I make my sweet potato wedges in the air fryer, I use:
Sweet Potatoes
Olive Oil
Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper
Smoked Paprika – This is optional but adds a nice bit of heat and flavour.

Equipment
All you need to air fry sweet potato wedges is an air fryer, a sharp knife, a chopping board, a peeler and a large mixing bowl.
How to Air Fry Sweet Potato Wedges– Step-by-Step Instructions
Full, easy-to-follow instructions and quantities are available in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Step One
Preheat your air fryer to 200 degrees C and set for 20 minutes.
Step Two
Chop the top and bottom of your sweet potatoes off and peel them. If you prefer the skin to be on, you can leave it and just scrub it.
Step Three
Chop into chunky wedges. I chop mine to around 5cm by 2cm chunks for soft wedges. If you want them crispy, make them skinnier.
Step Four
Place in a mixing bowl.

Step Five
Add the salt and pepper, paprika and oil and toss well to mix, making sure the potatoes are coated in oil and seasoned.
You can add more if needed.

Step Six
Tip onto the crisper tray of your air fryer basket and spread out evenly, trying not to overcrowd.
I aim for no overlapping, but a little bit won’t hurt.

Step Seven
Air fry for 10 minutes.
Step Eight
Remove and shake the basket well to toss.

Step Nine
Air Fry for a further 10 minutes.
After 20 minutes, check that the largest wedge is cooked and soft in the middle. If not, reduce the temperature to 180 degrees C and air fry for a further 5 minutes. Repeat until they are how you like them.

Step Ten
When cooked, carefully remove your wedges from the basket using a non-metal spatula, spoon or tongs.
How to Serve Air Fryer Sweet Potato Wedges
Serve your air-fried sweet potato straight from the basket with your favourite dipping sauce. I like mayo with mine.
Air Fried sweet potato wedges are the perfect side for anything you’d usually have chips with.
Variations
Once you’ve made these basic wedges, there are loads of things that you can try.
Start adding things like garlic powder to change the flavour. Adding cayenne pepper or chilli powder is great for spicy wedges. You could also add cajun seasoning or even parmesan cheese.
Experience different herbs, spices, and additions, but I recommend adding only one thing at a time and starting with just a teaspoon.

Leftovers
Place your leftover sweet potato wedges in a clean tub or bowl and leave to cool. Cover, and place in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Reheat in the air fryer for 5 minutes at 180 degrees C.
FAQ
Yes.
I don’t soak sweet potatoes before air frying. They don’t have as much starch as white potatoes, so I don’t think it’s necessary.
Sweet potatoes don’t crisp as well as white potatoes. They have too much moisture. I like mine soft, so this isn’t something I worry about.
If you want yours to be crispy, I recommend cutting them into thinner strips, more like long, chunky fries. You should also leave the skin on and make sure they’ve got plenty of space in a thin layer and aren’t overcrowded in your air fryer.
Yes.
This will depend on how big your wedges are, how much space there is in your fryer, and how soft you like them. Start with 20 minutes.
