We sometimes get into little routines with our meal plans.

At the moment, we seem to be having burgers on most Saturdays, curries with leftover meat on Mondays, and Mexican on Tuesdays.

It won’t last forever, but at the moment, it’s quite nice.

Saturdays are busy, so burgers are quick and easy, and there are lots that you can do with them or serve with them to change things up.

Routines, or themes, make meal planning easier, and if you find things that work around your routine, as long as you can change things up and don’t get bored, they are great.

So, for now, homemade burger Saturdays it is, and this recipe for minted lamb burgers is a big hit!

Ingredients for Lamb and Mint Burgers

Most recipes for minted lamb burgers use fresh mint. Which is great. But I think the mint sauce is even better.

Minted lamb burgers with mint sauce have a great flavour, and most of us have mint sauce in the fridge.

I also find that adding a liquid or sauce like this helps to bind the meat together.

I use:

Cooking Spray – or cooking oil

Lamb Mince

Onion – I tend to use brown, but red onion is great in this burger recipe, too.

Mint Sauce

Oregano

Burger Rolls, Fresh Lettuce and Tomato – To Serve

You can also have minted lamb burgers with cheese, just adding a slice of your favourite. I prefer without, even though I love beef burgers with cheese.

Can You Use Fresh Mint?

Yes, of course. If you’d rather use fresh mint, chop a handful finely and mix in with the mince instead.

But I do recommend giving lamb burgers with mint sauce a try!

Can You Use Lower Fat Lamb Mince?

You can make minted lamb burgers with low-fat mince. The mint sauce means that you don’t need as much fat to bind the burgers together, so a 10% fat lamb mince would work well.

Is it a Strong Flavour?

No.

I always worry that the kids would be put off by a really strong mint flavour.

So, I use 3-4 teaspoons of mint sauce for a fairly mild minty flavour.

However, if you like a stronger flavour, you can add another teaspoon or even two.

How do You Make Minted Lamb Burgers?

When I make burgers, I like to mix the meat, onions, and any flavourings together with my hands.

It’s easier to get the shapes right and to compact it all for a nice, juicy burger that holds its shape.

You can get the full recipe in the card at the bottom of this post.

Do You Need a Burger Press?

No, you don’t need a burger press to make these homemade lamb and mint burgers.

If you’ve got one, by all means, use it.

I use an old plastic lid that we kept once because it’s the perfect size.

I line my lid with cling film, press ¼ of my burger mix in tightly, and then use the cling film to lift it out.

From here, you can either wrap them to keep in the fridge for later or pop them straight in the pan and re-use the clingfilm for all of the patties.

If you haven’t got a press or a deep lid, you can just shape them with your hands roughly, first rolling them into a ball before pressing them into a nice compact patty.

Can You BBQ Homemade Burgers?

Yes, you can BBQ or grill homemade burgers. Just cook for a few minutes on each side until the middle is piping hot.

Can You Freeze Homemade Lamb Burgers?

To freeze homemade lamb burgers, wrap them tightly in cling film and freeze them for up to two months. Thaw your lamb mint burger fully in the fridge before cooking.
