A Bean and Cheese Toastie is one of my favourite treat lunches. It’s warm and gooey, extraordinarily yummy, and super comforting, like pimped-up beans on toast that you don’t need to use a knife and fork for.

Air Fryer Baked Beans and Cheese is pretty messy, though. So, no judgment if you do want to use a knife and fork.

Why I Love Air Fryer Cheese and Bean Toasties

Cheese and baked bean toasties are wonderful! I love them because:

  • Cheesy bean toasties are gooey, messy, warm and delicious.
  • Air fryer Cheesy bean toastie is super easy to make and is proper lunchtime comfort food.
  • Who doesn’t love a toasted sandwich?
  • How to make a toastie without a toastie machine? Use your air fryer! You can also make a cheese and bean toastie in frying pan in a pinch.

Ingredients For Air Fryer Cheese and Bean Toasties

Air fryer toasties are super easy, and you don’t need much. For my cheese and bean toasties in the air fryer, I use:

Thick White Bread—You can use any bread for toasties, really, but I find that thick white bread is best, especially with something juicy like beans. There are no holes for the bean to get through, and the bread won’t get soggy because it’s so thick. I use supermarkets’ “toastie” bread, which is perfect.

Butter—You can also use margarine or other spreads. Whatever you’d usually use on a sandwich is fine.

Baked Beans Any brand will do. We use Aldi’s own. I’ve said 100g, but that’s a fairly rough estimate. I can usually make four toasties with one large tin, which is probably just over 100g each.

Cheddar Cheese—You can use other cheeses, too, but cheddar is excellent. I sometimes grate, but nice, thick slices work, too. Grated cheese is just easier to get even. However, sliced cheese will be better at stopping the bean juice from seeping into the bread. There are pros and Cons.

Step One

Butter both sides of the bread liberally, getting right to the edges.

Step Two

Place one piece of bread in the air fryer basket on the crisper tray so the air can blow underneath.

Step Three

Press the middle of the bread down with your fingers to create a slight indent between the crusts. It’s a bit messy, but you can get more beans in. Leave the crusts as a wall, but press the middle down up to them.

Serving Suggestions

When I have cheese toasties, I often serve them with tomato soup. I love the dip!

This doesn’t really work when there are beans involved. I’d typically serve my air fryer cheese and bean toastie with a pack of crisps and some fruit like I would a sandwich. For a bigger meal, you could serve it with potato wedges, waffles or fries.
