As soon as I’d made a cake in the air fryer, easy air fryer flapjacks were the next sweet recipe I wanted to try.
I love flapjacks. I love anything with oats, but sticky, chewy flapjacks are delicious, especially when filled with fruity jam. Perfect!
Perfecting Air Fryer Jam flapjacks has been a journey. A fun one!
Sometimes, recipes go really well the first time.
They’re either things that we already eat a lot, so I just need to take photos and actually write down what I’m doing to work out quantities, or they are variations of things that I’m really familiar with.

Like my bolognese pasta bake is my bolognese, baked, so I only have to make it twice to work out times and take lots of photos, and it’s ready to post.
Some air fryer recipes go really well, too.
They translate easily from the oven to the air fryer; you just need to adjust times and temperatures.
But not everything is that easy.
Air fryer cake took some work. I had a few disasters.
Flapjacks weren’t quite as tough, but the first time, I just attempted to make my usual jam flapjack recipe in the air fryer. The top burned, and the bottom was raw. It just would not cook.
So, we had a fun week of testing flapjacks to get it right.
First, I added more oats for a dryer mixture.
Then, I swapped margarine for butter to help it set.
Finally, I reduced the golden syrup and jam.
Eventually, my air fryer flapjacks with jam were ready to go!

Why I Love Air Fryer Flapjacks
Golden syrup flapjacks in the air fryer are brilliant because:
- Oat bars are sweet, but they’ve also got plenty of health benefits.
- Cooking in the air fryer is super quick and easy.
- They are delicious.
- You can add different jams and fillings or skip them altogether.

Air Fryer Flapjacks Ingredients
When I make flapjacks air fryer style, I use:
Unsalted Butter – Or a Vegan butter alternative.
Light Brown Soft Sugar
Demerara Sugar – You can use all light brown sugar if you prefer.
Golden Syrup
Oats – I use regular porridge oats.
Strawberry Jam

Can You Use Maple Syrup for Air Fryer Flapjacks?
I’ve never tried it, but I can’t see why not if you want to make air fryer flapjacks without golden syrup.
You’ll Also Need
What you use to make your air-fried flapjacks will depend on the size and shape of your air fryer. As a guide, I use:
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Small Saucepan
- Silicone Spatula
- Foil tin. Now, in the ideal world, I’d use a metal cake tin and reusable baking paper. But I can’t seem to find a square tin that fits into my air fryer and isn’t tiny. I’ve even taken to carrying a tape measure around with me! The rounded edges of my air fryer basket mean that while an 8-inch round tin fits comfortably, an 8-inch square tin does not. You can make these flapjacks in any heatproof tin that fits comfortably into your air fryer. If you need foil tins, I use these, and they fit perfectly in my machine and are sturdy enough to use more than once. (Affiliate link)

How to Make Air Fryer Flapjacks – Step-by-Step Instructions
Full, easy-to-follow instructions and quantities are available in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Step One
Place the oats in a large mixing bowl.

Step Two
Place the butter, sugars and syrup in a small saucepan and warm over low heat.

Step Three
Stir until the butter has melted and the mixture is smooth. Don’t let the mixture simmer, and take care to stir around the edges so that it doesn’t catch to the bottom.

Step Four
Preheat the air fryer to 160 degrees C.
Step Five
Tip the butter and sugar mixture over the oats.
Step Six
Stir thoroughly until the oats are completely covered in syrup and none of them are dry.
Dig right down to the bottom of the bowl and fold the oats, making sure there aren’t any dry left at the bottom.

Step Seven
Tip around half of the oats (a little less is better than more) into a baking tin or dish that fits comfortably into your air fryer.
I use an 8-inch square tray. If yours is bigger or smaller, adjust times accordingly.
My tins don’t need greasing; they never stick, but you can grease or line with baking paper if you are worried.
Step Eight
Press down with a spoon or spatula, filling the tin with a compressed, even layer. I do this with a spatula, but you could also use the back of a spoon or even clean fingers.

Step Nine
Spoon over the jam and spread evenly. I tend to dot it about, so there’s less spreading needed.

Step Ten
Dot over the rest of the flapjack mixture and spread evenly, compressing to fill the tray in an even layer. Don’t worry if some jam pokes out.
Step Eleven
Bake in the air fryer for 25 minutes. I recommend checking after 15 minutes. The top will cook a lot faster than the bottom. Cover tightly with foil if you don’t want a crispy top, and it’s already darkening.

Step Twelve
Remove from the air fryer and leave to cool fully in the tin before removing and cutting into squares.
It will be wobbly while warm, and the bottom might look wet, but it will set. The longer you can leave it before cutting (overnight is great), the firmer it will be.

Pro Tips
My tips for the perfect air fryer flapjacks are:
- Stir the jam. I spoon my jam into a small bowl and give it a good stir before spooning it onto the oats. This makes it much easier to spread.
- Check after 15 minutes. The top will cook much faster than the bottom, so if it’s too dark, either be happy with a crispy top or cover it with foil, making sure you cover it tightly so it can’t blow off in the air fryer.
- Leave it to cool fully before cutting. It needs time to set and firm up.
- If you can leave it overnight, that’s great. If you are in a rush, as soon as it is cool and firm enough and before cutting, carefully remove your flapjack from the tin and flip it over so the bottom can get some air. This will help it to set faster. You can also put it in the fridge.

Air Fryer Flapjacks Serving Suggestions
I love a square of flapjack as a sweet snack, so mine just comes with a cup of coffee.
Variations
There are a few things that you can do differently when you make this air fryer flapjacks recipe.

Air Fryer Protein Flapjacks
Flapjacks are already fairly high in protein, but you can add some protein powder if you want more.
If you are the sort of person who owns protein powder, you already know more about this than I do.
Use Different Jam
Raspberry jam is good in flapjacks. You could even add things like Nutella or lemon curd.
Skip the Filling
Your flapjacks in the air fryer don’t have to have a filling at all. You can skip the middle part.
If you aren’t using jam, I’d reduce the cooking time by 5 minutes.

What if You Have A Different Size Air Fryer?
If you have a different-sized air fryer, just use a tin that fits, and remember, if your flapjacks are thicker than mine, they’ll take longer to cook. Adjust the cooking times accordingly.
Leftovers
If your flapjacks are starting to dry up, warm them up for a few minutes in the air fryer, oven or microwave before eating. This will freshen them up.
Storage
Store your air fryer flapjacks in an airtight container.
How Long Will Homemade Flapjacks Keep?
Homemade flapjacks keep for around 5-7 days. You can also freeze them for up to two months.
