I love an apple crumble. But if you want a quick pudding or sweet treat for one, a whole crumble might be a bit much!

This easy air-fried apple crumble for one, is the perfect single portion that’s just enough to hit the spot when you fancy a treat!

Why I Love Apple Crumble for One

Apart from being super cute and the perfect size for one person, I love this apple crumble air fryer dessert because you can make it in the air fryer, and it’s pretty much made from store-cupboard ingredients.

Both of which means that this air fryer individual apple crumble is cheap, easy and absolutely delicious!

Ingredients For Apple Crumble for One

When I make my air fryer apple crumble recipe for one, I use:

One Apple – I use a cooking apple, but these can be massive, so try to find a smaller one. Or use an eating apple.

Ground Cinnamon

Ground Nutmeg

Demerara Sugar – This is for the apple crumble filling, the crumble mixture, and to sprinkle on the top. You can use light brown sugar instead if that’s what you’ve got.

Plain Flour

Oats – Regular porridge oats are fine.

Butter – I don’t recommend using margarine, which is liquid-based and runnier.

You’ll Also Need

I make all my meals for one in a little le creuset ramekin (affiliate link – mine’s not exactly this, but it’s a similar size). It’s heatproof, perfect for the air fryer, and the right size for one person.

However, you can make this in any dish you can put in the air fryer—even a cereal bowl.

Then, I just use a sharp knife, chopping board, potato peeler, and spoon.

How to Air Fry Individual Apple Crumble – Step-by-Step Instructions

Full, easy-to-follow instructions and quantities are available in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Step One

Preheat your air fryer to 180 degrees C and set for 10 minutes.

If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheat setting, set it for a few minutes to warm up before you add the crumble.

Step Two

Place the chopped apples in a small, heatproof cooking dish that’s suitable for use in your air fryer.

You might find it easier to mix the filling in a larger bowl before tipping it into your small heatproof dish to bake. A cooking apple nearly fills mine before they’ve shrunk a little while cooking, so mixing the spices in can be difficult.

Step Three

Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar for the filling and a small splash of water.

Step Four

Mix together until all of the apples are coated in the spices.

Step Five

Place in the air fryer basket.

Step Six

Air fry for 5 minutes.

Step Seven

Carefully stir; I use a teaspoon and add a splash more water if it’s very dry. Some apples are juicer than others, so you’ll have to judge whether they need more water or not.

Step Eight

Air fry for another 5 minutes.

Step Nine

While the apples cook, prepare the crumble topping by placing the flour, oats, sugar and butter in a small bowl. I use a cereal bowl, but a mixing bowl is fine.

Step Ten

Rub the butter in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles uneven breadcrumbs. Too fine, and your crumble won’t be crisp, so leave some bigger, more uneven lumps.

Step Eleven

After ten minutes, carefully remove the apples from the air fryer.

Step Twelve

Sprinkle the crumble liberally onto the apples, creating a level top. Your apples should have shrunk quite a bit, so there should be plenty of room.

Step Thirteen

Sprinkle over a little more sugar. This is optional, but I think it adds a nice colour and texture.

Step Fourteen

Place it carefully in the air fryer basket and set it to 180 degrees C for 10 minutes. This time, it won’t need preheating.

Step Sixteen

Cook apple crumble in the air fryer for 10 minutes until the top is golden.

Serving Suggestions

I love crumble with custard.

But I concede that unless you’ve got a tiny pot, this might be hard.

You could also add a dollop of vanilla ice cream or a splash of cream.

Variations

Skip the Spices

I’ve added a touch of nutmeg and cinnamon for a little extra flavour.

But they aren’t essential. You can skip them if you prefer.

Use Eating Apple

Bramley apples are perfect for crumble because they are firm and tart and retain their crunch and flavour as they cook.

Some eating apples are too sweet and too soft to really bake well.

But if you are making apple crumble for one on the spare of the moment, you might not have bought a cooking apple ready.

You can use whatever you’ve got. Firm, tart apples like granny smiths are best, but you can use anything.

Use Light Brown Soft Sugar

I like Demerara because it’s crunchy, but light brown soft sugar works well, too. I’d probably skip the sprinkle on top.

Skip the Oats

I love an air fryer apple crumble for one with oats, but again, it’s not necessary. You can just add a little extra flour.
