Pasta and Baked Beans
When I was a student, I used to eat pasta, baked beans, and cheese all of the time. It was a standard dinner. Probably with a cheap can of cider!
Well, this pasta and baked beans dinner is almost the same, but with added sausages, and a little bit more nutrition.
It still tastes amazing, is still fairly studenty, and it’s still incredibly cheap and easy to throw together.
If love the combination of beans and sausages, I highly recommend giving this easy sausage and bean pasta bake a shot, because everything’s better when you put cheese on top and bake it. Right?

Ingredients for Sausage and Baked Bean Pasta Bake
Most of the flavour in this sausage and bean pasta bake comes from the sausages and beans themselves, which makes it really really easy. I use:

Cooking Spray
Pork Sausages
Pasta
Onion
Garlic
Bell Pepper
Carrots
Salt and Black Pepper
Baked Beans
Tinned Tomatoes
Cheddar and Mozzarella – I use both for a cheesy bean pasta. Either is fine too though.

What Kind of Sausages Should You Use for Sausage Pasta Bake?
I use super cheap Aldi pork sausages most of the time.
If you can afford higher quality sausages with a higher meat content, then that’s great, but if not, any will do.
What Cheese Should You Use?
I top my cheesy sausage and bean pasta bake with mozzarella and mature cheddar. You could use either on their own or add some parmesan. Anything that melts, and that you like, would be great.

Can You Add Extra Vegetables?
Yeah, extra veggies are always good in a sausage and baked bean bake. More peppers, courgette and spinach are just a few of the things that you could add.
However, this isn’t a particularly wet pasta bake, so if you are adding a lot, you might want to add more chopped tomatoes or some chicken stock.
You can also add a pinch of chilli flakes if you want a little spice.

How to Make Sausage and Bean Pasta Bake – Step-by-Step
This recipe is so straightforward. You can get the full quantities and instructions in the card at the bottom of this post too.
Step One – Cook the Sausages
I bake my sausages in the oven, but you can grill or fry them to the packet instructions too.
When they are cooked, leave them to cool slightly before cutting them into bite-sized chunks and leaving them to one side.

Step Two – Cook the Pasta
Cook the pasta to the packet instructions, but for about half of the time. This just stops it from going mushy when it bakes.
Drain and rinse in cold water so that it doesn’t stick together, and then leave to one side.
Step Three
Mist a large, heatproof and flameproof pan with cooking spray and warm over medium heat on the hob.
I use my large cast iron dish. If you haven’t got something like this, that’s suitable for use on the hob and in the oven, start with a frying pan on the hob before transferring to an oven dish to bake later.
Step Four
Add the onions and fry for 5 minutes until soft, stirring often.
Step Five
Add the garlic and cook for a further 2-3 minutes, stirring often.
Step Seven
Tip in the carrots and pepper and stir well.

Step Eight
Add the beans, chopped tomatoes and a pinch of salt and pepper and stir well.
Step Nine
Bring to a simmer and reduce the heat.
Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring often. This is really just to start the carrots off so that they aren’t super hard when you eat them.

Step Ten
Remove from the heat and stir in the sausages and pasta.

Step Eleven
Top with grated cheese and bake at 180 degrees C (fan-assisted) for around 20 minutes, until the cheese is golden brown.

What to Serve with Sausage and Bean Bake
I serve my sausage pasta bake with baked beans with garlic bread, and sometimes a side salad, but that’s about it.
