Corned beef hash is a proper family classic.

Easy, cheap and tasty, it’s pretty much the perfect midweek meal for families.

I typically fry my corned beef hash, but air frying is a fantastic alternative!

Why I Love Air Fryer Corned Beef Hash

Air fryer canned corned beef hash is brilliant because:

  • It’s a modern way to cook an old-fashioned corned beef hash.
  • Air frying means your potatoes are wonderfully crispy and soft in the middle, and the corned beef breaks up and distributes throughout the meal.
  • You can add different veggies if you want to.
  • It’s a brilliant meal if you are on a budget. Corned beef is hugely underrated!
  • It’s made with meat, potatoes, and vegetables, so you can serve it as is without needing any sides or extras.
  • Cooked corned beef has a fantastic texture.
  • I love easy air fryer recipes, like this corned beef hash recipe.

Ingredients For Air Fryer Corned Beef Hash

When I make homemade corned beef hash in the air fryer, I use:

Butter – You can use olive oil if you prefer.

Corned Beef

Red Onion

White Potatoes – Something like a Maris Piper.

Carrots

Frozen Peas

Henderson’s Relish – You can use Worcestershire sauce. But it’s absolutely not the same.

Salt and Pepper

You’ll Also Need

I air fry my hash directly in the air fryer basket, but you can use a silicone basket or foil tray (affiliate links) to make the clean-up easier.

Use silicone utensils so you don’t use metal in your air fryer. I just use a spatula.

You’ll also need a large saucepan, sieve, sharp knife, potato peeler, and chopping board to prepare the ingredients.

How to Air Fry Corned Beef Hash – Step-by-Step Instructions

Full, easy-to-follow instructions and quantities are available in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Step One

Carefully remove the tray from your air fryer basket. If you’ve taken it out to clean or to use the basket without it a few times, it will probably slide out quite easily. If not, the little silicone feet things might mean it’s a pretty tight fit. Ease it out carefully.

Step Two

Boil the potatoes in lightly salted water over medium heat for 10 minutes, carefully adding the carrots for the last 5.

Step Three

Drain and set to one side.

Step Four

Place the butter in the air fryer basket and air fryer for 2 minutes at 200 degrees C.

I actually do this while my potatoes are cooking to save time.

Step Five

Add the onions and stir well with a silicone spatula or spoon until coated in butter.

Step Six

Air fry for 5 minutes. If you like your onions super soft, cook for a little longer, but still stir after five minutes.

Step Seven

Remove and stir.

Step Eight

Add the potatoes, carrots, peas, corned beef, a splash of relish, and a good pinch of salt and pepper.

Stir well and return to the air fryer.

Step Nine

Air fry for 15 minutes, stirring thoroughly every five minutes. Don’t worry if the corned beef breaks up. It’s good!

Cook for a little longer if you want really crispy potatoes and crispy corned beef.

Step Ten

Serve straight from the basket using a silicone or plastic serving spoon or tip into a large heatproof dish to take to the table.

I transferred to a dish to take photos, but I’d usually serve straight from my basket, just tipping it into serving bowls using a silicone spatula to help it out.

Pro Tips for Perfect Air Fried Corned Beef Hash

For a fantastic air-fried corned beef hash:

  • Remove the crisper tray. I usually leave the tray in and use a silicone basket or foil tray to keep things clean and easy to remove. But corned beef hash is big and chunky. I’d only be able to cook half a meal at a time in my silicone baskets. So, instead, I removed the tray from my air fryer and cooked the food directly in the basket. It’s messy, and you need to stir several times because the air doesn’t circulate as well, but I’ve found it’s the best way to cook corned beef hash.
  • Stir regularly. Removing the tray prevents air from circulating under the food, so the top crisps, but the bottom doesn’t. Stirring every five minutes helps ensure an even bake.
  • Use a silicone, wood or plastic spatula and serving spoon. Don’t use metal.
  • Rinse your basket straight away to make it easier to clean.

Serving Suggestions

What you serve with your corned beef hash depends on things like when you are eating it, who you are eating with, and, of course, what you like.

I often serve it on its own. It’s got meat, vegetables, and potatoes and is quite filling just as it is. This is also quite a big portion, so you can have a good, filling bowl full.

Air Fryer Corned Beef Hash and Eggs

If I add anything to my air fryer corned beef hash, it’s fried or poached egg.

Corned beef is quite high in saturated fat, so adding a low-fat, high-protein egg is a good choice.

For my photos here, I quickly fried an egg in a mini pan (affiliate link) and carefully placed it on top. I left the yolk soft, so it ran down on the meat and potatoes. Yummy.

Corned Beef Hash for Breakfast

Some people have corned beef hash for breakfast.

I’m not sure I would, but if you want to, why not?

For breakfast, you might add baked beans, bacon, sausages, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns, and toast.

I recommend a smaller portion if you are adding lots of breakfast favourites for a filling air fryer breakfast.

Bread and Butter

Something else I might add is bread and butter. It’s always a welcome addition, especially if you want to make a meal go further.

Variations

You can do a few things differently when you make corned beef hash in the air fryer.

Use Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potato hash is lovely! Just replace either all or some of the white potatoes with sweet potatoes.

Add Different Veggies

Carrots and peas are easy, but you can use any veggies in hash. It’s especially good for using leftover vegetables that don’t need pre-cooking first.

Mash The Hash

I remember eating corned beef hash that was mashed together and then baked to finish.

Personally, I prefer my hash chunky.

But if you want to mash everything, that’s great.

I’d mix cooked diced onions, salt and pepper, boiled potatoes and diced corned beef and mash thoroughly with a big knob of butter before spooning it into a heatproof dish that’s suitable for use if your air fryer and air frying for 5-10 minutes at 200 degrees C to crisp the top.

You’re only cooking the top, so you don’t need to stir.

Serve carrots and peas on the side.

Smash

Another option is to mix all the ingredients in a large pan and gently press them with a potato masher to smash them a bit.

The texture will be courser than mash, but not as chunky as my hash recipe.

Spoon this smashed hash into a heatproof dish and air fry for 15 minutes at 200 degrees C, stirring every 5 minutes.

Leftovers

You can reheat leftover corned beef hash in the air fryer, microwave, or oven. How long it takes will depend on how much you have left, but make sure it’s piping hot before serving and stir regularly so there are no hot spots.

Storage

Store leftover hash in a covered bowl or airtight tub in the fridge for 1-2 days.

Notes

  • Removing the crisper tray from your air fryer gives you much more space. But it does mean that the air doesn’t circulate as well. This means that stirring really well is essential for well-cooked potatoes.
  • Don’t use metal utensils in your air fryer.
