Our Summer To-do List

You may remember 10 Things I Hate About Winter. I hate winter. But, despite being one of those awful people that complain when it’s too hot I love Summer. I love not having to put a jacket on and the evenings being lighter. I’m not quite as keen on boiling feet in bed or sweaty pants but you can’t have it all and my summer to-do list is always pretty simple. I’m just happy that it’s warm.

This summer is a little different for us. We’ve just moved to a new house and we have a bit of outdoor space for the first time. We’ve also got nothing big coming up. Two years ago, we had a baby and wedding due and last year I was about to go back to work after maternity leave. This year we can just relax and enjoy ourselves. Working from home means I’ll get a chance to work outside while Bobsy plays and there’s nothing huge we need to be saving money or preparing for. So, here’s my summer to-do list.

Visit the Beach

We normally visit Whitby for my birthday but decided against it this year as the weather wasn’t great. So, we’re behind on our beach schedule. We have a week in Scarborough coming up in August, but it would be nice to fit in a few day trips before then.

I love the beach. I could play in the sand, or sit and read a book for hours before exploring the little seaside town and all the sights. This is something that I look forward to every year.

I’ve been an awful runner this year. I was terrible over winter then as I started to get back into it, we started all the house move stuff and I lost my rhythm again. So, now we’re moved and there’s a nice route it’s time to stop making excuses. Husband gets home early enough that I could easily fit in a run before it gets dark if I don’t have time in the morning.

Water Play

The kids love water. Well, Bobsy hates swimming and baths but she loves splashing so I’m looking forward to hitting the fountains it town and some of Sheffield’s other great water play areas.

Swim with Bobsy

I hate going swimming in the winter. I’m not sure why. The pool is the same temperature but it never seems as appealing. The Bobsy hated it last time we went so now we’ve got more time again I want to try and get her back into it.

Get Garden Toys

We’ve got most house things we really need but nothing for outside as we’ve never had outside. I want to get some things for the kids to enjoy outside and I’m looking forward to The Boy being able to play on his bike and skates in the garden.

This, I absolutely can’t wait for. I’m under very strict instructions to not get an expensive BBQ until November when they will be on sale, but a cheap one will do for now. I can’t wait to cook our own burgers on our BBQ. We might need some outdoor seating too!

Make the House Pretty

Summer is the best time to throw the windows open and do some decorating. It’s only a rental so we can’t do much but I think we’re going to add a little colour and get some fun accessories. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.

After a tough year, it’ll be nice to have a quieter and more relaxed summer. I’m looking forward to just chilling. Enjoying being with the kids and having a glass of wine or a gin and tonic outside.

So, that’s my summer to-do list. What’s on yours?
