Homemade Tomato Pizza Sauce

I’ve used this recipe for pizza sauce before, in my homemade pizza recipe. But, I was just about write up my stuffed crust recipe, and thought it would be easier, in terms of future pizza recipes, if I had this separate somewhere. It also makes it easier for me to find when I need a reminder.

It’s a great tomato pizza sauce. Super simple, and exceptionally tasty. It’s perfect for pizzas, but would be great for many other recipes that require a tomato sauce. With some peppers, mushrooms and an onion, it would also be a fantastic pasta sauce.

You will need:

  • 400g chopped tomatoes
  • 2 Cloves garlic
  • 1tsp Mixed herbs
  • Salt and pepper

I say 400g chopped tomatoes, I believe these little cartons are 390, but that’s fine too!

To start with, empty the chopped tomatoes into a smallish saucepan.

Next, finely chop your garlic, and add to the tomatoes. Stir in, add mixed herbs, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix together well.

Bring to the boil, and then reduce to a simmer.

Simmer for around 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

After 20 minutes, the tomato chunks will be soft enough, that you can just mash them gently with a fork, until you’ve got a smoother mixture. It doesn’t need to be totally smooth though, lumps are fine.

At this point, taste, and add any more salt/pepper/herbs you like.

Poor into a container, then either use straight away, or store until you need it. It will last in the fridge for a few days, but can also be frozen. I generally use about half for 2 large pizzas, and freeze the rest until I need it.

It’s honestly, so each, cheap and tasty, you’ll never buy pizza sauce again once you’ve tried it. Check out my stuffed crust pizza recipe next!

Ingredients

  1. Place chopped tomatoes in a small saucepan
  2. Finely chop garlic and add the pan
  3. Add mixed herbs and salt and pepper to taste
  4. Bring to the boil, reduce and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally
  5. Use a fork to press out any large lumps
