40 Things before 40

40I turned 30 earlier this year, does this make me a grown up? As a younger person I wouldn’t have believed it possible to be 30 and still not feel like a grown up, but I’m not, I still don’t even know what I want to be when I’m older, but I have got a few ideas of things I want to do.

At some point in my early 20’s I sat with a friend and wrote the 30 before 30 list. This has got lost over time, but from memory I can tell you some totally failed (pay off credit cards…hahahah) some slightly failed (learn to drive-I’m very nearly there, just need to pass that test thing.) some were slightly successful (buy a house. Looking) and some were massively successful (you know, married, kids, a nice set of saucepans, important things)

This isn’t a list of wild dreams and brilliantly exotic fantasy, it’s all very realistic, and possibly quite dull, but that’s me, simple needs!

So let’s see how this one goes.

  1. Buy a house
  2. Learn to drive (starting with things I really should manage)
  3. …more saucepans
  4. Pay off credit card
  5. stop having babies
  6. Get a tattoo
  7. Get another piercing or two
  8. Go to America
  9. Make the blog a reasonable success (I’m not entirely sure what I want that to be yet)
  10. Have a lovely 10th wedding anniversary
  11. Run a half marathon (not a full one, that would just be silly)
  12. Go to a gig
  13. Go to see a West End show
  14. Try lots of new foods
  15. Make Hunky Husband finally paint me a picture
  16. Read more
  17. Grow happy, healthy, lovely children
  18. Learn how to do make up properly so I am more equipped to teach The Girl
  19. Write a novel (a whole one, not just another opening chapter!)
  20. Manage to make a lasagna (they never work. I don’t know why. I’m a good cook)
  21. Learn a language
  22. Go somewhere really hot
  23. Be happy with my body
  24. Have a job I really love
  25. Drink more water
  26. Have been to the dentist at least twice!
  27. Have sex outside…Again
  28. Get 1000 twitter followers
  29. Skinny dip

At about this point I’ve started to struggle to think of things, which either means I’m really happy with my life, or I’m really boring.

  1. Get a good camera, and take lots of really good photos
  2. Own our own restaurant (this could double up as the job I really love)
  3. Go to Lego Land (when you read lists like this, people always want to go to lots of really interesting places, I want to go to Lego land. Says it all)
  4. Have something published
  5. Find a red wine I really love
  6. Go to Oktoberfest
  7. Have some savings
  8. Invest in something
  9. Go to Ireland
  10. Watch Deep Space nine
  11. Watch at least 50 of IMDB’s top 250

Productivity Tips for Work at Home Mums

I’m lucky enough to work from home. As a freelance writer. If I couldn’t, I’m not sure how we’d manage. Hunky Husband works long hours, so pick-ups and drop-offs were all down to me. Which meant I could basically work 10-2 out of the home. […]

  • This is fab. I imagine if I had written this it would be very similar. Apart from the owning a restaurant one because I cannot cook to save my life. That one would have to be to eat in more restaurants.. haha ☺

    • I just wanted to be a list of things I might actually do! Hunky Husband will do the cooking. I used to manage a restaurant, back in the pre kids days of being happy to work until 3am, and he’s a chef, so it’d be our little project. One day. Maybe.

    • I just can’t get with red wine. When I was younger someone told me I’d like it when I got older, but still no. Hunky Husband says I just haven’t found the right bottle. Any recommendations?

    • That might make a really good 6 months! Or a good head start on your 50 before 50 list! i’ve got 10 years so hopefully i’ll get them. Thank you for hosting. x
